Warden Purdue is in charge of the Luna Three prison work camp at the time Tom Zarek, Benedict Mason and Duby are incarcerated there.
Purdue tends to use his authority harshly only when necessary, leaving the internal matters to his guards and the alpha male of the prisoners, such as Jason Melton and, later, Zarek. After Zarek has Melton killed, Zarek and Purdue come to an agreement: in return for increased labor output, Purdue will give the prisoners better health care, food, and education opportunities so that they don't have to return to prison (Battlestar Galactica: Zarek 3).
