Battlestar Wiki:Think Tank/Galactica 1980 Improvement Project
This page (like all pages on this wiki) was imported from the original English-language Battlestar Wiki based on what was available in the Wayback Machine in early 2017. You can see the archive of the original page here. |
- This is an archive successful proposal that was vetted through the Think Tank, a place where ideas of all kinds are proposed and worked upon by the community prior to implementation. Please do not modify this proposal.
Given the recent release of the DVDs, I propose the creation of a project dedicated to an organized effort to bring the Galactica 1980 pages up (or near to) the standards set by the Original Series and RDM continuities.
Galactica 1980 Improvement Project
The Galactica 1980 pages are considerably less fleshed out, lack images (or good images) in many cases, and lack the "standardized" look and feel that the other two major continuities have. A project might help to organize efforts to improve the pages and help ensure that there is less duplication of effort, as well as try to keep pages from being overlooked.
The creation of such a project would help the wiki by further expanding upon our thoroughness/extensiveness, and would also serve to set a higher standard for quality wiki-wide. (You're only as strong as your weakest link, people will only perform to the lowest standard, etc.)
Rather than have a page that is manually updated like OSAD (the Original Series Article Development project), we might consider using a more tag/category based system. Pages that are identified as falling into a particular subcategory of the project would receive a category identifying them as such, and the project page would have links to the identified categories (rather than manually updated lists) as well as the guidelines/instructions that are associated with that category. We might also put those guidelines on the category pages themselves (redundant, yes, but it would be helpful for someone who stumbled upon the category by accident).
Participants would likely be people who (much to their chagrin) are in possession of the newly released 1980 DVDs, but would be open to all. Many of the tasks that will need to be completed, especially early on, need no particular knowledge of the series.
Work would presumably start as soon as this proposal passes, and once the work areas/categories are defined. This project would mainly encompass the 1980 continuity, both the existing 1980 pages and the likely creation of many more new articles as appropriate. This project would likely have some minor impact on the TOS continuity, in the places where the two stories "overlap" or where disambiguation is needed. This project would have little to no impact on the RDM continuity, or the rest of the site.
