IMDb profile

Sigmund Neufeld Jr. (born May 12, 1931), who was one of the more prolific television directors of the early 1970s through the late 1980s, is the director of the Galactica 1980 episodes "The Super Scouts, Part II" and "The Night the Cylons Landed, Part I".

Neufeld comes from a very prolific family of American film production staff. He is the nephew of legendary director Sam Newfield who is often considered to be the most prolific director in American film history, having directed over 300 movies from Hollywood's Silent Era, through the studio era of film in the 1950s. His father, Sigmund Neufeld produced over 130 movies from the early 1930s to the mid-1960s.

Neufeld started his career as a composer and sound editor for the 1957 television series Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans, based on the popular James Fenimore Cooper novel. Neufeld got the job through his uncle, who directed much of the series.

Neufeld didn't break into television directing until some 13 years later, with Lassie:Well of Love. In addition to Galactica 1980, Neufeld worked as a director for 32 other television shows during the period he was active, including T.J. Hooker, The Twilight Zone, The Invisible Man, Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Simon & Simon.

Neufeld suddenly stopped directing for television in 1989, with the television series A Man Called Hawk after having directed for 19 years. He recently returned to directing with a movie called Behind the Badge in 2002, but hasn't directed anything since.
