Sky1 is one of British Sky Broadcasting's entertainment channels in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. BSkyB is owned in part by News Corporation.
Sky1 has the broadcast rights to air Season One to Four of the Re-imagined Series.
The Battlestar Galactica Miniseries was a pilot jointly funded and produced by the following companies:
- R&D TV
- Sky TV
- NBC Universal (formerly USA Cable Entertainment LLC)
The miniseries was distributed on a variety of TV channels including Sky1 (UK) and Sci Fi Channel (US).
After the success of the Miniseries, a 13 episode series was greenlighted and produced by the same companies as the pilot. The first episode, "33", was broadcast in the United Kingdom on 18th October 2004, 8:00 PM on Sky1, three months before its premiere in the United States on 14th January 2005. Sky1 negotiated first-broadcast rights of season 1 of the series as part of its financial backing terms.
After Season One, Sky1 does not provide major financial backing of the series, but it still credited due to its investments with set and pre production early in the series.
Sky has also produced and co-produced several other original series, including:
- The 4400
- Hex
- Dream Team
- The Strangerers
- Time Gentlemen Please
- Brainiac: Science Abuse and its spinoffs
Other American popular shows broadcast on Sky1 include:
- 24
- Lost
- Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis
- A Town Called Eureka
- Nip/Tuck
- Star Trek: The Next Generation
